Keiren Perrow had an amazing round 3 heat against Roy Powers in flawless conditions at Pipe/Backdoor. He scored a 7.17 and backed that up with a 10 and left the water super stoked. In round 4 he couldn't find the waves to get past Bede and finished in 9th. Congratulations K.P on a great year.

Soli Bailey had a big win in round 1 of the 16 boys finishing with a 15.00 heat total, ripping. Steph Single scored a 3rd and moves into the requalifying round.

Tyler Wright posted a massive quarter-final heat win at the Arnette Australian Junior Titles under 18 Girls today. A 9.7 final ride and 17.27 heat total moved the division favorite into the semis. Soli Bailey was eliminated in the quarter finals. Steph Single has fought her way thru the requals and is into the 16 girls semis.

Tyler Wright added to her already incredible Junior Surfing Record by winning todays Arnette Australian Junior under 18 Girls Surfing Title at Coolum Beach on Queenslands Sunshine Coast. Wrights record is now, World Under 18 Champion, Australian under 16 and Australian under 18 Champion along with a win on surfings highest platform when she won the Beaachley Classic ASP World Tour event in 2008 and she is only 15. Today’s win will see Tyler into TravelSim Team Australia for the World under 18 Championships in New Zealand in January.Congratulations Tyler.

The waves at Sunset beach are 15-18 ft (30ft+ faces) and closing out today. We will take the day off tomorrow for Thanksgiving and most likely see competition commence Friday ( Saturday in AUS ). Aloha'

Dan Ross cruised thru to the round of 32 with a heat total of 12.10. Adam Melling will be surfing in the second heat of the day when the event resumes tomorrow.

UPDATE Dec 4

Mello had a big win in massive out of control conditions with a heat total of 16.50 and moved into the final 32. The O'Neill World Cup of Surfing can lay claim to running in the largest surf ever contested in the 27-year history of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing. Waves were at the outside limit of contestable, topping out this morning at 20 to 25 feet and often closing out totally across the bay. In the round of 32 Mello was eliminated in the final minute by 0.27 points and finishes in 17th but definitely impressed a lot of people with his act.Dan Ross surfed a really smart heat with some big turns and moves into the quarters while showing the surfing world that he is a surfer that can be dominant at Sunset.

UPDATE Dec 7

Dan Ross had a huge win in his quarter final scoring a total of 15.67 eliminating Jihad and Bam Bam. In the semi Huey brushed him and Dan finished in 7th. This result increases Dan's QS lead for the end of '09. Congratulations Rossy and good luck in 2010.

The heat draw is out today. Jarrad surfs Ht 2 round 128 with Alejo Muniz and Dylan Melamed . Woody surfs in Ht 6 round 128 with Marco Giorgi, Joel Centeio and Michel Bourez. Dan Ross surfs Ht 7 round 64 with aerial wizz Jadson Andre . Mello surfs Ht 15 round 64 with Josh Kerr . If Owen can get the green light from the medicos he surfs Ht 10 round 64 with Pat Gudauskas.

Woody had a big win in a tough heat in the round of 96. Woody scored an 8.17 and a 6.23 to move into the final 64 Ht 5. Dan Ross will start his Hawaiian campaign in Ht 7 while Adam Melling is in Ht 15.

Ali'i Beach is 1-2 ft this morning. Contest organizers have decided to call a lay day and wait for a new swell that is predicted to hit the North Shore late Saturday. Be sure to check back over the weekend for event status. Most likely Sunday and Monday will see the brunt of the new swell, which should provide ample surf for the last 2 days of competition. Aloha

UPDATE Nov 23

Mello had an amazing win going from 4th to 1st in the dying minutes and getting arguably the barrel of the day. Adam won his heat with a 9.80 and 1.00. Woody was eliminated in a slow heat that was only decided in the last minute. He finishes in 33rd and gets a small boost up the ratings. Dan Ross surfed really well and was unlucky to be eliminated in a heat where there was 0.13 between 1st and 3rd.

Bad luck for Mello today after leading for the entire heat he couldn't find a back up for his 8.07 and slipped into 3rd. Good luck at Sunset fellahs.

The O’Neill Cold Water Classic Santa Cruz has been upgraded to a 6-Star PRIME and runs in California from November 2 through 8. Stu Kennedy starts in the round of 128 while James Wood, Jarrad Sullivan and Adam Melling get a run in the round of 96. Good luck fellahs.

Stu Kennedy has progressed thru to the round of 96 in fickle frustrating conditions. Stu was coming 4th in the final minute and scored a 6.27 to move to 2nd.

Woody surfed a great heat ,leading for the first 28 mins eventually finishing 2nd and Cruzed into round 3. Jarrad surfed a solid heat and is also into round 3. Stu handled the weed ,smashed his heat leading from start to finish with a heat total of 16.00 and is into round 3.

Mello had a good heat and moved into the 3rd round. Woody bowed out in a tough heat in the round of 48. Jarrad couldn't find a back up wave to go with his 7.83 and was also eliminated in the round of 48. Stuey took a while to get started but looked to be thru until the last 30 secs when he slipped to 3rd and a 3rd round elimination.

UPDATE Nov 8

Mello made it thru to the round of 16 and came really close to taking the $50kUS for the series but could not quite get there with Huey stooging him on his last wave on the hooter. Adam finishes with a 9th and 1925 QS points and solidifys his position near the top of the QS ratings.

The 6-Star O'Neill Cold Water Classic Canada runs from October 25 through 31 in Tofino, which lies on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Stu Kennedy, Adam Melling, Jarrad Sullivan and James Wood have all packed their beanies and headed into the wilderness .

Stu Kennedy was sensational in his opening O'Neill Cold Water Classic heat and logged the second-highest single wave score of 9.00 on a reeling Tofino lefthander. He then marched on to put his fellow competitors in a combo situation with a 17.00 heat total and advanced through to the Round of 96.

"I thought my waves were just alright, but I'm happy with the scores. I've got great equipment and I'm nice and warm, so I'm stoked."
"I think Canada's amazing. It's such a unique spot, just to come here is great and I'm looking forward to the next heat."

The Billabong Cloud 9 Invitational at Siargao Island in the Philippines started toady, Oct 22. Garrett Parkes and Stephen Walsh were two lucky fellahs that recieved invites to this barrellfest and both are doing well progressing into round 3 in perfect 6' tubes .

Garrett Parkes has taken out the Billabong Cloud 9 Invitational in the Philippines today, beating Hawaiian Makua Rothman in a man-on-man final.
“It wasn’t exactly the real cloud 9, not many barrels, but I made do with what I had. I managed to get through a few heats this morning and just keep it going through to the final. I’m stoked.”

The Rip Curl Pro Search 09 starts on Oct 19th at Peniche in Portugal. This event is running on the new format so Keiren Perrow will start in the 2nd round. Owen Wright has been granted a wildcard in the event so expect him to cause some havoc. Owen surfs in heat 7 round 1 against Bam Bam ( Kekoa Bacalso ).

“We really wanted to run today, but the site structure at Supertubos is too badly damaged today and the conditions at Lagido never materialized,” Damien Hardman, Rip Curl Pro Search Contest Director, said.

8 heats from round 1 of the Rip Curl Pro Search was held in the wedging two-to-three foot waves at the backup site of Mohle Leste. Owen took out Kekoa in a casually brilliant display.
“I have been to the Rip Curl Search event in Chile and Bali and that was great.The Search concept allows the guys to go somewhere different every time and they are the best surfers in the world so they can deal with anything. I am really stoked to be put alongside of these guys and be able to compete here in Portugal.”

Owen Wright has taken out Slater at the Rip Curl Pro - again.
The heat was an extremely tight affair with Slater opening up with solid scores on both his forehand and backhand while his younger opponent waited patiently. Wright’s progressive forehand arsenal was put to use in the punchy lefthanders, threading barrels and stomping air reverses to come within striking distance of the champ. Needing a solid score with time winding down, Wright pulled into a lengthy left barrel to score a 7.73 out of a possible 10 to take the lead and the heat win.

“I feel great, it was a really tough heat with not many waves. Kelly got the jump on me and opened up early so I sat and waited to try and get the bigger and better waves. Every time I have watched a heat of Kelly’s on the tour the waves turn on so I was stoked to be out there with him and have such good exchanges.”

Keiren had good start to his heat against Tim Reyes but failed to capitalize on the early advantage and was eliminated for another 9th. K.P is now assured a spot on the WCT in 2010

UPDATE Oct 27

Owen beat Dane Reynolds in a classic heat to go into the quarters. The lead changed many times but with 2 minutes to go Owen needed an 8.08 when he took off on a righthander and scored a super deep backhand pit and sealed it. He scored a 10 in his quarter final against Damien Hobgood but also took a heavy wipeout and ruptured his eardrum. At this stage he doesn't know if he will surf in his semi against Mick.

Owen was informed that due to his injury he is out of the event. That must have been a hard pill to swallow for the most in-form pro surfer of 2009. See you next year

In the U12's Jeames Young and Jacob Ogden came 2nd in their round 1 heats and are straight thru to round 2. Both Jake Snellgrove and Zac Wightman had crap heats and were relegated to the requalifying round. Both groms had better luck later and won their heats to progress thru to requal. round 2 so everything is back on track. Tom Snellgrove is thru to round 2 in the U16's where Nik Hoskin and Soli Bailey are seeded and waiting for tomorrow, Shannon Mackie was eliminated. In the U14's Jeames Young progressed thru into round 2 where he will surf in the same heat as Soli Bailey. Tommy Boucat and Mikey Wright are also seeded and waiting for round 2. No girls heats were surfed today

In the U14 girls Steph Single finished in 5th while Kirsten Ogden is into the final. Kirsten is also into the semis of the 16 girls. In the U12 boys Zac Wightman finished 11th and Jake Snellgrove in 9th. Jeames Young and Jacob Ogden are both thru to semi final number 1.

UPDATE Oct 16th

In the U12's boys final today Jeames Young had the final all sewn up until it was snatched from him in the dying seconds. After the initial disappointment of not winning passes he should be proud of his performance finishing 2nd. Chris Zaffis from Angourie also made the final and finished 4th, well done grom. Jacob Ogden had his run halted in the semi's and finished in 7th. Soli Bailey, Tommy Boucat and Mikey Wright all had heat wins today with Jeames Young getting a 2nd to all go thru to round 3 in the U14's. In the U16's Soli Bailey and Nik Hoskin are into round 3 with Tom Snellgrove eliminated.

In a great performance worthy of a champion, Kirsten Ogden dominated the 14 years girls division. Ogden heralded her star on the rise with a host of amazing performances throughout the week topped off with winning the final.

Soli Bailey has finished 2nd in the U16,s with Nik Hoskin bowing out in the quarter finals.

In the U14's Mikey Wright had to settle for 2nd place with Soli, Jeames Young and Tommy Boucat all losing out in the quarters

Ocean and Earth Teenage Rampage Japan

Ellis Ericson has won the Ocean and Earth Teenage Rampage event held in Japan in conjuntion with the Malibu Hyuga Pro. Ellis was in devastating form throughout the event and won the final with an 8.75 and 9.50 for a combined tally of a near perfect 18.25. Well done grom !!

Billabong Pro Mundaka

The Billabong Pro Mundaka runs from Oct 5th - 17th in Euskadi. The sudden death knock-out format is being used this year to deal with the fickle nature of Mundaka. Keiren Perrow , due to his position on the current ratings, will start in round 2.

After waiting out a flat week Keiren finally surfed a heat. In fun looking waves he scored 12.33 to defeat Ben Dunn and move into round 3 where he will take on Taj. Good luck mate.

Woody had a win in the round of 48 but was then knocked in the round of 24 overnight finishing 19th. Owen also won his round of 48 heat and is into the round of 24 to be surfed tonight.
"It's freaking hot out there. Actually it is really bad to compete like that, with more than three guys in the water with just one peak outside and really close to the rocks.” commented Owen

The Commonwealth Bank Beachley Classic runs from Sept 30 - Oct 5 at Dee Why. Tyler Wright is the defending champion after winning last year as a 14 year old wild-card.

“I’ve only just turned 15 so I still have nothing to lose and everything to gain.I still have a lot to learn and having another opportunity like this is unbelievable. Since last year, I’ve grown at least a centimeter so hopefully I have a bit more power behind my turns.”

Tyler will surf her first heat against Steph Gilmore and Chelsea Hedges.

The event started today in 2' - 3' waves at Dee Why. Tyler came 2nd in her round one mega-star heat and surfs next in round 3 against Steph again.

UPDATE Oct 1

The Commonwealth Bank Beachley Classic was called off today due to the lack of waves on offer this morning. With plenty of time remaining in the event waiting period, surfers and officials have decided to wait for the swell to increase before resuming competition.

UPDATE Oct 2

Event officials were forced to call a second consecutive lay day today. They’re expecting a new swell to fill in over the weekend and want to wait for conditions to improve before restarting competition.

Tyler went down to Steph in round 3 by 0.15 points , so it really could have gone either way. Bad luck Tyler but you'll have plenty of rematches in the future

Stu had a convincing win in the round of 96. Ellis comboed the crew for a win. Bad luck for Nik being eliminated in a stacked heat.

In the round of 64 Garrett had a comfortable win and Stu destroyed his opponents for a win. Ellis also surfed a smart heat and took the win.

Garrett Parkes couldn't find the right waves today and was eliminated in the round of 32 finishing 17th. Stu Kennedy was 2nd in his round 32 heat and moves into the final 16. Ellis came 2nd in a super tight heat and is thru too.

Stu Kennedy was then eliminated in a tight heat in tough conditions and finished in 9th. Ellis made it thru a tough one into the quarters but then was knocked by Davey Cathels to finish 5th. Well done grom.

Dan and Jarrad both progressed to the final 16 coming 1st and 2nd respectively in the same heat in the round of 24. Jarrad was then eliminated by Joel Centeio from Hawaii and finished with an equal 9th.

Congratulations Dan Thomson finishing 5th and shrugging off the free surfer tag. Dan earned 975 WQS points , US$2000 and plenty of respect.

The Quiksilver Pro France runs from 23rd Sept - 4th October on the south west coast of France. Round 1 of competition headed out in clean three-to-four foot waves at Les Bourdaines. Keiren Perrow surfs in Ht 12 in the first round. Good luck mate.

Keiren did a fair impersonation of a tea-bag in his Rd 1 heat and caught his first wave with 4 mins to go in a 30 min heat. Better luck in the next round KP.

UPDATE Sept 24

Kieren Perrow Survived a super tight heat against David Weare scoring a 9.84 heat total to the South African's 9.50. Hope he can crank it up to another level in round 3.

UPDATE Sept 26

K.P won his round 3 heat by the narrowest of margins and is through to round 4. Kieren scored 11.67 to Chris Davo 11.47. He will face Taj next.

UPDATE Sept 27

Unfortunately for K.P he had to face Taj in really small waves and was comboed out. Still another solid result in 9th takes the tally to 4 for the year plus a 5th and a 17th and dropping a dirty turd from Brazil. K.P will be on tour in 2010

The Rip Curl GromSearch Series presented by SNICKERS began its 2009/2010 season today in fun waves at Jan Juc. Soli Bailey, Jeames Young, Shannon Mackie and Nik Hoskin have all travelled down for the event. Good luck fellahs .

UPDATE Sept 23

Jeames Young is going good and moved into the semi final for the U12's. In the U14's Soli Bailey and Jeames Young are into the quarter finals. In the U16's Shannon Mackie, Niki Hoskin and Soli are all still alive.

UPDATE Sept 24

Soli Bailey is ripping at the Rip Curl GromSearch Series in Victoria - He's through to the semi finals in both 14 and 16 Boys divisions tomorrow. Jeames Young has been turning a few heads by finishing 9th in the 14's and qualifying for the Final of the 12's. Shannon Mackie surfed his way into the 4th round before being eliminated. Niki Hoskin has kept it all on track and is into the semi-finals of the 16's.

Soli Bailey’s performance today was exceptional, despite losing the closest final in the 16 Boys where he came 2nd, he took a convincing win in the 14 Boys final where he posted two excellent 8 point plus rides. Well done ya little bugger. Jeames Young smashed all opposition to win the U12's after his great showing in the U14's, can see a big future for this grom. Niki Hoskin made the final of the U16's and finished 4th

The Ocean and Earth Teenage Rampage was held in tricky conditions at D'Bah over the weekend. Tommy Boucat was ripping his way thru the 16 and under boys division making the final and finishing 2nd. Zac Wightman surfed great throughout the event in the 13 and under boys division making the final and finishing 3rd. Jake Snellgrove was seriously unlucky to not make the final with a 1st and two 2nds over the three rounds which uses a bonus point system to decide finalists. Tom Snellgrove just fell short of making the final in the 16's. Well done groms.
