The O'Neill Coldwater Classic runs from 23rd - 29th March in the Marrawah area in NW Tassie.

The event started today in windy 8' waves at Bluff Reef. Woody made it thru the first round while knocking out Tamaroa McComb. Jarrad Sullivan also made it thru the first round eliminating seppo Che Stang. Owen Wright continued his great form in '09 to easily win his first heat. Upcoming north coast surfers heats are :
Anthony Walsh Ht 21 round of 144
Jarrad Sullivan Ht 2 round of 96
James Wood Ht 4 round of 96
Adam Melling Ht 6 round of 96
Dan Ross Ht 7 round of 96
Owen Wright Ht 10 round of 96
Stu Kennedy Ht 24 round of 96

UPDATE 1
James Wood and Adam Melling both easily won their way thru to the 3rd round. Anthony Walsh was unlucky to miss a spot in the round of 96 after a close heat. Surfers 2nd - 4th were separated by only 0.3 points. Jarrad Sullivan just couldn't find the waves in his heat and Dan Ross was also eliminated in a very close heat.

UPDATE 2
Owen Wright surfed a solid heat to go thru to the 3rd round and Stu Kennedy was knocked in the final heat of the round of 96.

UPDATE 3
Both Adam Melling and Owen Wright have continued their great start to the '09 season by winning their heats and going thru to the final 24. James Wood was eliminated today and finished in 25th with 875 QS points. Well done Woody.

UPDATE 4
Adam and Owen are on a roll with both surfers smashing their opponents and winning their heats comfortably. They are now into the final 16 and will receive a minimum of 1375 WQS from here on. Adam is looking to qualify in '09 and this is a good way to get the ball rolling. Owen ,who is still a junior, is a star of the future and his efforts so far in '09 are sure to get a few tongues wagging. Keep up the good work fellahs.

UPDATE 5
Unfortunately Adam never really got going in his heat and finished in 9th. Still a great start to the year, congratulations mate. Owen Wright surfed in the RipCurl wonderkid inter-generational challenge against Nathan Hedge. In what was a close and high scoring duel Owen outshone his older stablemate to move into the Quarters.

FINAL UPDATE
Epic waves at Bluff Reef for finals day. Owen surfed well in his quarter but couldn't get past Jordy Smith. With one wave scoring a 9 he needed another solid back up and ran out of time. Still a huge result for the junior surfer who takes away 1625 points from this 6 star QS Congratulations.
