Billabong Pro Mundaka

The Billabong Pro Mundaka waiting period kicks in today. Dan Ross surfs in Ht 11, Dan Wills in Ht 15 and Keiren Perrow in Ht 16. As for Kelly's 9th World Title it looks for sure to happen at Mundaka. Kelly needs to finish 9th or better to clinch the Title and even if he did lose early in 17th or 33rd, Mick Fanning or Taj Burrow
must win the event to take it to Brazil. Possible, but at this stage highly unlikely.
Top 45 surfers not attending the event in Mundaka - Neco Padaratz, Dean Morrison, Mick Fanning, Andy and Bruce Irons all for various reasons but the Slater freight train could possibly have something to do with it.
Quote from anonymous top 45 surfer this year regarding Slater-
" Why doesn't he just get a life ? "

UPDATE 2.10
Great news from Mundaka overnight with all 3 North Coast surfers winning their first round heats and progressing thru to the third round.

UPDATE 3.10
All of round 2 and several heats of round 3 were completed overnight at Mundaka. Dan Ross went down to Parko in his heat , leaving Mundaka with a 17th. Dan Wills faces off against Ace Buchan in the first heat when competition resumes tonight. Keiren Perrow surfs in Ht 14 against Ben Dunn. Good luck fellahs.

UPDATE
Keiren Perrow has come from behind in the last 20 seconds of his round 3 heat with an amazing tube ride to progress to the 4th round. Good stuff mate. Unfortunately Dan Wills failed to progress thru and finished in 17th.

UPDATE
Keiren Perrow did not make it thru his round 4 heat but still finishes with another great result for the year - 9th Billabong Pro Mundaka. So now Keiren is pretty much guaranteed another run in the WCT next year. Well done mate.

Fun was the name of day one at the Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage held at Duranbah today, as the traditional surfing competition was left behind.

Unlike other surfing competitions, the Ocean & Earth Teenage Rampage allows competitors to surf three heats each without elimination instead of the traditional cutthroat format – with each surfer’s two highest scoring rides from each heat will be added together, along with bonus points awarded according to the position the competitor finishes in each heat.

Tommy Boucault was a standout in the under 13 division, sitting atop the leaderboard at the end of day one.
Other Far North Coast surfers competing are Sam Clift, Jake Cumberland, Regan Fredricks, Shannon Mackie, Mitchell James, Damo Norman and Joel Ford.

UPDATE 25.9
With an increase in swell overnight and improved conditions greeting competitors on the final day of the event was sick.
Mitchell James, who had tore D'bah to shreds over the course of the event, was superb in winning the U 16's

“I’m so stoked right now,” he said after accumulating a heat total of 14.90 which was highlighted by a brilliant 8.50 point ride.

“I had no real thought of winning the event,” he admitted.

“I just wanted to do my best and if I made the final then so be it.”

Tommy Boucat surfed great to finish 2nd in the U 13's

Billabong Cloud 9 Invitational

Laurie Towner Photo Jake White Surfing QLD

The opening round of the highly-anticipated Billabong Cloud 9 Invitational got underway at the remote, island jewel of Siargao, Philippines. North coast surfers Laurie Towner and Stephen Walsh are both in the event. Laurie won his opening heat today.

UPDATE 24.9
Walshy stole the show today, mixing up a variety of radical tail sildes, aerials and full rotation maneovures to bag both the day’s highest combined heat total and individual wave score. Tuason Point, a peeling right hand reef break situated 500-metres from the tournament break of Cloud 9 was todays venue
“I just went out there and surfed the heat like a free surf,”
“The more I pushed it the better I seemed to surf. I just didn’t seem to fall on any key moves.”

UPDATE 28.9
Walshy finished in 9th place on the final day in pumping waves

Quiksilver Pro France

Keiren Perrow Photo ASP

The Quiksilver Pro France waiting period starts today looking for some decent swell at La graviere. Dan Ross surfs in Ht 2, Keiren Perrow Ht 10 and Dan Wills Ht 12.

Dan Ross came 2nd in his heat overnight and will surf in Ht 8 of rd 2 against Jeremy Flores. Dan Wills was in good form to post a rd 1 win. Keiren Perrow scored a perfect 10 and took down World Champ Mick Fanning to win his rd 1 heat, progressing straight thru to rd 3.
"That wave was just perfect, I could see it was going to double-up when I paddled over that second one. I haven't had a 10 in years so it was good to get barreled and get one. The wave was so good anyone would have got a 10 on it."

"When I heard that I got a 10 I still thought I'd be in second. I still thought I'd need a score because they hadn't read out my 5.0 and I only thought I had a 3.5. Even then it was pretty close still, Mick didn't need much and he was right behind me. It would have been disappointing to get a 10 and lose."

UPDATE 21.9
The remaining 12 heats of Round 2 of the Quiksilver Pro France will run at Les Estagnots this morning. Round 3 is on standby. Competition commenced at 8am.
--Dan Ross could not find a decent scoring wave in his heat against Flores and finishes the event with a 33rd

UPDATE 24.9
Unfortunately Willsy couldn't get past C.J. Hobgood overnight in France and finished with a 17th. Better news for Keiren Perrow who easily out surfed Roy Powers to progress to the 4th round. Good luck mate

UPDATE 25.9
Keiren Perrow has finished 9th at the Quiksilver Pro France overnight. With this result K.P continues his great return to the WCT and moves to 17th on the ratings. Well done mate.

STU WINS !!

Photo Steve Robertson Surfing Australia

Stuart Kennedy has claimed overall victory on the ASP Australasia Pro Junior Series.

Stuey started the year with an under-dog win in the Jetty Surf Pro Junior at Bells Beach and from then on was the man to beat. He has held the ratings lead since that first event and after a super consistent season which included two wins and a lowest result of fifth place from his counting eight events (Best 8 results from 13 events count) it is impossible for even the nearest competitor to overtake his lead with two events remaining

“I’m totally stoked to win the Junior Series, I’ve had a really good year on the Junior Tour and it is great to have met my goals. My sponsors Rip Curl, Emery Surfboards & Future Fins have backed me so well throughout the year. Right now, I am preparing for some WQS events in Europe as I want to gain a good seed position for the 2009 WQS. I’m really looking forward to the ASP World Junior Championships at Narrabeen in January”

Stu will miss the remaining two events on the ASP Australasia Pro Junior Series in order to focus his energies on the ASP World Qualifying Series events in the Canary Islands in an effort to secure himself a top level seed going into the 2009 ASP World Qualifying Series.

Congratulations Stu!!

Adam Melling answered the day's top performers in Heat 2 of Round 4 taming the heavy incoming tide sets with his custom made style to secure a near perfect 9.97 to advance through to Round 5 ahead of current WQS No. 4 Patrick Gudauskas .

"There were a few big ones closing out but the right corner of the beach was offering some better quality waves and I tried to stick there," Melling said. "I had some good ones out there so I am pretty happy but I got pulled over on a few ones and it is kind of heavy when you are below."

"I don't want to put any pressure on myself so I am relaxed and going heat by heat,I just want to go home with a good feeling. I lost in very close heats in the last couple of events and I would like to leave Europe not too bumped."

Jarrad has come 2nd in his heat and made it thru to the final 24. Keep it up mate !

UPDATE 7.9
