The opening round of the highly-anticipated Billabong Cloud 9 Invitational got underway at the remote, island jewel of Siargao, Philippines. North coast surfers Laurie Towner and Stephen Walsh are both in the event. Laurie won his opening heat today.

Walshy stole the show today, mixing up a variety of radical tail sildes, aerials and full rotation maneovures to bag both the day’s highest combined heat total and individual wave score.
